  2. Type the regedit in a search bar and hit enter
  3. On the top of the Registry editor, paste the following link in the address bar: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
  4. On the right side, find the “SetDisablePauseUXAccess” Dword Value. Simply, delete this file and reboot the system.

That’s it. Now, the Pause update option is no longer Greyed out and this will pause the Windows updates easily. But, keep in mind that this option is suitable for both Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro version users. 

Method 2: From the Group Policy Editor

Group Policy Editor is only accessible to Windows 11 Pro, Pro Education, or Enterprise users. To do so, follow the simple steps:

  1. Open the Run Dialogue box by pressing Windows + R keys altogether
  2. Type the grepid.msc in a search bar and hit enter
  3. Then, the Group Policy editor opens up and navigate to:

Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Windows Update >> Manage end-user experience

  1. On the right side, find the “Remove access to “Pause updates” features”
  2. Double click it and choose the disable option > click apply > hit Ok

That’s it. Now, restart the PC, and hence, the Pause update option is no longer Greyed out.

Method 3: Force Group Policy Updates

Sometimes, restarting a PC is not enough for Group policy updation so, you have to update it manually. To do so, follow the steps:

  1. Head to the Command Prompt or PowerShell by pressing Windows + X altogether and then, select the Windows Terminal
  2. When the Windows Terminal open up, type gpupdate /force
  3. Hence, it will update all Group Policy changes forcefully.
