How to Create Borders in Google Docs

There are a few ways to add borders on a page in Google Docs as these methods will allow you to add borders on a single page. Well, if you are interested to add borders on all of your pages then, you have to repeat these steps for all the pages. To do so, follow the below-mentioned steps: 

1. Create a Single Cell Table

An easy and simple way to create a border around a page is to utilize a single table along with a border. You can write a text inside a cell as per your choice and the borderline will appear all around the text. To do so, follow the steps given below:

  1. Head to Google Docs and sign in to it 
  2. Select the insert option placed next to the view option 
  3. Now, select the table option and click 1×1 table 
  4. When done, a table will drop into the document and hence, appear as a box. 
  5. Now, select any side of a box and drag it to adjust its height and width that encircles the entire page 
  6. When done, your table will appear on the edges of the page. Also, you can type anything inside the box 
  7. You can format the text color, alignment, or anything else on a page. This will lose nothing while working on a page with borderline 
  8. Also, you can change the appearance of a borderline and use the format (pen) icon to change the color of borderline
  9. On the right side, you can change the border thickness and border style (i.e, dotted line, etc.) 

2. Inserting a Drawing – Box or Text Box

If you are not interested in using the table option then there is another way to create a border on a page in Google Docs. You can insert a drawing > either create a regular box or a text box to form a border. To do so, follow the simple steps:

  1. Head to Google Docs and sign in to it 
  2. Select the insert option placed next to the view option 
  3. Choose a drawing option then, select a New option
  4. A menu appears where a list of options open up now, select shape then, select rectangle icon to draw a rectangular shape in a document
  5. You can now, drag its edges to take at the borders of a page. When done with resizing it then, select Save and Close option  
  6. Now, a rectangular box appears on the border of a page, you can resize it too. Simply, select the rectangle and drag it to the edges. 
  7. A background of a document will be blue if you want to change the color then, select the rectangle > select the Edit button placed at the bottom side. 
  8. This will open up the drawing tool again where the editing toolbar appears. You can also change a fill color, border color, borderline thickness, and border style here.
  9. Now, select Save and Close option for a change you later made. Hence, to show up in a document.

3. Inserting an Image as Page Border

The last method to create a border on a page in Google Docs is that insert a border image from the net. This provides you with a better option to utilize more creative borderlines. This is mostly utilized when you make an invitation or any other document to give it a nicer look. To do so, follow the steps given below:

  1. Head to Google Docs and sign in to it 
  2. Select the insert option placed next to the view option
  3. Now, choose an image option then, select Search the web option
  4. You type borders in a search bar to get unique borderlines 
  5. Scroll down to select your favorite image. When selected, click the insert option placed at the bottom of a list
  6. A border image will be inserted into a document. You can resize the border by dragging it.
  7. As this is an image so, you can’t be able to select anywhere inside it and start typing text. To insert text, move this border image behind all text. Simply, select an image > select the Behind text icon placed at the bottom of an image.
  8. This image appears as a layer behind all the text of a document. Now, you can type inside an image border

However, you have to use a tab key (a few times) on a keyboard at the beginning when you type a text and place it in the border itself. Well, this is a minor thing that is to be done when utilizing the creative image borders in a document.
