Microsoft Word is a word processor created by Microsoft. It is used to make professional-quality documents, letters, reports, and so on. It has advanced features which let you format and edit your files and documents in the best feasible way. Also, it enables users to do write-ups, create documents, resumes, contracts, and so on. Well, it is the most commonly used program under the Office suite. 

However, most users only use the most essential features that MS Word offers, they do not recognize the stuff they are missing out on. Apart from being able to open, view, and edit documents, it gives you the capability to design greeting cards, create barcodes, and make your booklets among numerous other items. So, let’s go ahead and make a booklet in Microsoft Word (i.e., both manually and using one of the built-in templates).

You can use Microsoft Word templates that save your time and effort when working on your documents. Whether making a booklet for your school project or a popular event in town, you can find the right template placed in Word’s free templates collection. So that you are not required to start from scratch. However, to make a booklet using Microsoft Word templates, follow the steps given below.

  1. Open a new Microsoft Word document.
  2. From Word’s menu, select File > then, New from Template. 
  3. In the Word Document Gallery window, a standard selection of the most common templates appears. 
  4. Find the search bar placed in the top-right corner of a window simply, type the booklet to search the templates. Also, use different keywords, like an event or school project to go through other themed templates that suit your needs nicely.
  5. When finding the template you want to use, select Create (or Choose if you making use of an older version of Word).  
  6. Now, Word will download your template and you can start working on your booklet.
  7. When done, select File > then, Save As to save your booklet. 

Hence, you can customize the selected template directly in the Word document before starting work on your booklet that better fits your requirements. 

Make a Booklet in Word Manually on a PC

If you do not find the right template then, you can create a booklet in Word from scratch via special booklet page settings from the Book Fold layout. Well, this layout permits you to create easily and print a booklet prepared for folding or binding. However, to make a booklet in Word manually, follow the steps given below.

  1. Open a new Microsoft Word document and select the Page Layout tab. 
  2. Select the little arrow icon placed at the bottom-right corner of a tab to open the Page Setup window.
  3. In the Page Setup window, follow the path Margins > Multiple pages > Book fold
  4. Change the page Orientation to Landscape if not change automatically. 
  5. Under Margins, also set up the right value of Gutter (i.e., the amount of space that you want to leave for binding). 
  6. Open the Paper tab and select Paper size if interested to change the size of your booklet (Note that the physical size of a booklet is half of the paper size that is set up). 
  7. Under the Layout tab, edit your booklet’s appearance further. For e.g, you can add borders to every page of the path as follows: Page Setup > Layout > Borders
  8. When you are happy with the measurements, select Ok. If you decided to do formatting after adding the content to your booklet, you see the text formatted automatically. 

However, when you finish adding content to your booklet then, you see the document is too long. So, you can split it into multiple booklets and bind them together after printing. Also, you can select how many pages to print per booklet under Margins > Pages > Sheets per booklet

How to Print a Booklet in Word

If you used one of Word’s free templates for creating a booklet, printing it out is remarkably easy. Booklet templates are created to make sure that the page orientation is correct when printing them on both sides of a paper. However, all you have to do to print your booklet is to select File > Print. However, if you choose to make your booklet manually from scratch, check the print settings in advance to make sure that you print on both sides of a paper and flip it perfectly to keep the right page orientation. 

Moreover, when you select File > Print, check out if your printer supports automatic printing on both sides. In this case, under Settings select Print on Both Sides. Then, select Flip pages on short edge to make sure do not print the second side of each page upside down.  If your printer does not support automatic printing on both sides then, select Manually Print on Both Sides and put the pages back into the printer manually when required. In this case, flip the sheets on the short edge yourself to keep the right page orientation. 

Make Your Booklets in Word from Scratch

When you know your way around Microsoft Word, you can get creative with it and use the software to do more than just open and edit text documents. Besides making your greeting cards and booklets, you can use Word to practice drawing and improve your artistic skills.
